Very few organisations within the UK are prepared for this new reality and all face pressing questions.

  • How would your business cope with no water?
  • Do you have alternative supplies?
  • Do you have a water strategy?
  • Do you monitor your water use?
  • What do your customers think of your water use?
  • Do you know your water footprint of your building portfolio?
  • Do you know your total water supply and wastewater charges?
  • Is your surface water charge correct?
  • Do you know if your water charges are accurate?
  • Could you save water in your business process?
  • Do you have environment licences in place for wastewater return to water course?
  • Are you compliant with all water legislation?

The risks all businesses face

As the profile of water issues becomes more and more important, businesses face the following risks:

  • Water prices will continue to rise.
  • Drought will become more common in the UK.
  • Restrictions on business water use will become more likely.
  • Flooding will be more frequent.
  • Water quality issues will occur.
  • Wastewater charges and drainage charges will increase.
  • Trade effluent charges will increase.
  • There will be more restrictions on business wastewater discharge.
  • There will be more restrictions on abstraction licences.
  • Planning permission will be more dependent on water neutrality and water efficiency.
  • Water and carbon links will be more pronounced and water use will be considered in caron measurements.
  • Embedded water accounting will become commonplace.
  • Insurers will require an assessment of water risks.
  • Contracts are likely to include water stewardship clauses as businesses assess supply chain water risks.

Water strategy

We can prepare an overall water strategy for clients covering all aspects of water management and water risk that assists decision making for cost reduction, ensures regulatory compliance, protects reputation and protects business continuity.

Water supplier Consultation

We can carry out research on the support that is available to you from wholesale water companies and any possible grants that maybe available to help your business, including the completion of your applications. We can advise on the retail water market, both in terms of switching and self-serve.

Desktop water audits

We are experts in all aspects of water auditing including water into buildings, water use, and water out to waste. This will identify areas of high usage and waste, identify cost savings and areas for alternative solutions.

Site Water audit visits

Our detailed site visits provide an assessment of water intakes, water using products and areas, and wastewater disposal. Water metering points can be checked, and details confirmed. These audits have an additional cost but can be offset against any water saving purchases.

Benchmarking

We can help you to benchmark your water use against internal or external comparator sites, normalised against, user numbers, bed days, or ALA. Adjusted to account for laundry/no laundry, catering/no catering, cleaning regime, and outdoor irrigation, water features, and window cleaning services.

Technical advice on fittings and water usage

We have access to the latest global water technologies and can do an assessment of your current fittings and calculate savings and cost-reduction.

Advice on alternative water and wastewater approaches

We can help you to assess the viability of alternative supplies such as boreholes, rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling as well as assessing the use of nature-based solutions for wastewater and drainage, such as SUDs, lakes, engineered wetlands etc. We can also arrange installation and maintenance of these measures.

Bill checking and advice on rebates

We can provide a comprehensive bill checking service. This includes basic bill checks for errors, but also non-return to sewer allowances, surface water drainage charge reductions, leak allowances, appropriate tariffs, trade effluent charges, and advice on alterative suppliers.

Leak identification

We can identify leaks using desktop analysis of water use data. We also have a ‘find and fix’ service or in some cases a no-dig solution and we can arrange for network condition inspection using CCTV, robots or acoustic AI solutions.

Water accounting for ESG reporting

We can prepare water data for reporting and compliance. This includes all water use including embedded water and embedded carbon associated with water.

Identification of water risks

We can produce a water risk matrix, highlighting extant and future legislation around water, ensure regulatory compliance, as well as assist with liaison with environmental regulators.

Develop communications plans

We can help you to communicate your water plans to your staff, customers and supply chain, for both internal and external comms as well as website, reporting and social media.
