At Ecoprod we’re dedicated to helping our clients reduce their water usage, and reducing water use has never been more important. Recently the Chief Executive of the Environment Agency warned that England is set to run short of water within the next 25 years and we’re already seeing the effects of water shortages, not only in the developing world but also in the UK. That’s why I am proud to announce the launch of our latest publication – The Ecoprod guide to saving water in your business.
Currently the average person uses 140 litres of water per day. This needs to be reduced at least down to 100 litres, if not further, and organisations can help with this by cutting the amount of water employees use when they are at work. Such water saving initiatives obviously have an environmental benefit, but they also offer business benefits as they can help organisations to demonstrate sustainability and reduce their carbon footprint as well as helping to achieve green certification and showing leadership in environmental management. And ultimately, of course, cutting water use means cutting costs – money that goes directly to the bottom line.
Our water saving guide offers a guide to simple ways in which you can both reduce water usage and also prevent wastage within your organisation. Some of this can be achieved with the installation of simple technical solutions. For example, waterless urinals can reduce water usage by 100,000 litres of water per urinal per year, whilst low flow sensor taps can cut water use by up to 90%.
However, technical solutions will only get you so far. You also need to change behaviour. This means educating your staff to understand the importance of conserving water and persuading them to modify aspects of their behaviour.
The water saving guide works through each of the main areas of water use in a typical organisation – the washroom, the showers, the kitchens, the garden – and helps you identify simple ways in which you could reduce water usage in each area. Some of these are technological solutions, others are behavioural changes.
We recognise that not everyone has the desire or the budget to undertake a complete washroom or kitchen revamp, for example, so we include small changes that you can make quickly and with minimal cost right now alongside more substantial changes that you might make at the same time as undertaking a washroom revamp.
As well as presenting the very latest in water saving technology and products, the guide includes practical advice on how to change people’s behaviour. Vast amounts of water are wasted every day in organisations and often much of this can be prevented with simple behavioural changes.
Our guide helps you identify the key areas in your organisation where such changes are needed and suggests tried and tested strategies for changing people’s behaviour accordingly.
All of us have an obligation to save water. Whilst water saving should be an important part of any organisation’s corporate social responsibility strategy, the savings go straight to the bottom line so commercially it’s a no-brainer.
So why not take action today?
